Some miscellanea in 3D...

I don't know when I'm going to get around to finishing these, but once they are, I'd like to rig them and see how they run.

http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/2861/s19kx.th.png) (http://img101.imageshack.us/my.php?image=s19kx.png)

A somewhat plain sword... Hoping to add more detail in the texture. I actually modelled this back in March... then had my hard drive die. I remodelled it shortly after, and it's been sitting here since.

http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/4610/sg15mf.th.png) (http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sg15mf.png) http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/7769/sg23fd.th.png) (http://img78.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sg23fd.png)

Your folding-stock shotgun... Pretty much finished. I even have the stock animated to unfold within the scene , which would make creating two versions very easy. It would probably just be a repeater, since neither K1 nor K2 actually have shotguns...

http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/9632/g19vo.png) (http://imageshack.us)

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/9466/dc15smg2ud7.th.jpg) (http://img98.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dc15smg2ud7.jpg)
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/2070/e11rab9.th.png) (http://img209.imageshack.us/my.php?image=e11rab9.png)

Two rifles here....

We have the rifle used by Stormtroopers in the 'OT'....

And the one used by Stormtroopers in 'RotS'.

I also modelled these back in March before my hard drive died. Recently remodelled, and they've been sitting here since.

http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/3263/ls11ls.png) (http://imageshack.us)

Just a lightsaber I randomly made one day. The texture needs a bit more detail. The blade glow is just a Max effect I stumbled across by accident. Added it in to make it look cooler than it really is, I guess.

http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/4953/dh17mgcopyrd5.th.jpg) (http://img112.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dh17mgcopyrd5.jpg)

Remodel of the very first mesh I ever made. DH-17. :D

The white numbers are the polygon counts. All meshes and textures are made by me. Thanks to Svцsh for help with rendering reflections. :^:

As I said, I don't know when I'm going to have time to finish these.... They're definitely not priorities in my life right now, so I won't make any promises as to when I'll be finished.

....Just thought I'd share a bit of what I've been doing lately.

The stuff looks cool, seems like you're really conserving your polies, which is good. Although 644 seems slightly high for such a simple hilt design, but maybe I just think so because I haven't modeled anything in about a month. Hard to tell without wireframes or being able to see your edges. I do like the sword, although I think I'll be able to appreciate it more once I see it skinned. I hope you're as good a skinner as you are a modeller ;).

Oh yes, and I will give you a cookie if you PM me with that blade glow technique :).

Heh, well, the lightsaber wasn't actually intended to be in a game at first... So I just started with a 10 sided nGon. A bit overkill for the purpose, but at the time, I wasn't even considering either game. It is a simple enough design, so I'll probably just redo it if I find the time.

Thanks for the compliment, but to be honest, I personally still find my skinning skills to be a bit lacking. Learning, though. ;)

And sure, I'll type it up in a minute. PM me if what I write makes no sense... It's 3AM here.

Thanks for the compliment, but to be honest, I personally still find my skinning skills to be a bit lacking. Learning, though.I personally find modelling to be the easier of the pair, myself ;). I mainly do swords, as I find I hardly ever use guns ingame. And for some reason I just love modelling swords. And they're easier to skin most of the time :p.

I don't care about the fact that you said they're incomplete! They look great - as with all your stuff. I'm a fan of the sword, I don't know why, but it feels like a must have.

Added a shot of the shotgun with the stock unfolded.

Thanks guys. :)

Yes, Kain, I'm convinced that rifle is hated by a higher power. HapSlash had trouble rigging his... >][V][< gave up on his because of people on Pcgamemods...

So I modelled one in March, and my OS crashed the next day. I remodelled it 4 days later on my backup PC, and its power supply burned out later that afternoon.

...I fear for my PC's safety.

Mono what can I say your a genius when it comes to crafting weapons in particular those guns. I'm eager to see that Shotgun in action especially since it's animated. If you were taking gun request's I would ask if you could make a P-90 from Stargate SG-1
 Mono_Giganto

Well, the shotgun won't actually animate in the game... As far as I know, we still can't do that. What I meant was that it animates within the Max scene, so all I can make a folded version, and then all I have to do to make an unfolded version is move the slider.

As for a request.... I'm kind of limiting the time I have to finish what I have already. I want this to be released by the end of the month. I can't garauntee that I will... But by the end of July, I'll probably have less time.

I wonder if we couldn't manage to get the animation in-game by piggy backing it with the same fields in baseitems.2da that handle lightsaber animation. Such as when the lightsaber ignites when you go into combat. I'm sure there has to be a way of doing this. Maybe we could figure out a way of hooking the gun model with the replacer tool to the lightsaber model then rotating pivot points to be held like a gun?

I would hate to see your animating in gmax efforts go to waste.

I would hate to see your animating in gmax efforts go to waste. If my animating experiences serve me well (as well as Mono's description of the animation) it would probably be kind of trivial to expend so much energy on such a small detail. I doubt the animation is very involved if it's just the stock extending. Could be as few as 2 or 3 keys unless he really got it nice and smooth.

The guns do look quite good, though. Guns were never one of my strong points, so I'm glad to see there's someone in the community who does do them, as new guns can be a lot of fun to play with!
 Mono_Giganto
07-22-2006, 9:24 PM

Yeah, it wasn't too hard, maybe 4 or 5 keys spaced out to make it pretty smooth. The real trouble was to get the "butt" of the stock to rotate along the stock's pivot, then rotate on it's own pivot. It's no big deal, really.

Besides, I don't see what the lighsaber has to do with it. We can't transfer the animations to a new mesh, and even if we could, I don't want my stock to ignite like a lightsaber blade. Especially straight up in the air. :p

@Mav: Hi Mav! :^:

Probably not, at least not right away. I've got about 6 days left to finish what I have here, then I'll probably step back from modelling for a little bit. There are one or two others that I've considered redoing though.

Seeing as the guns are all rigged, and both melee weapons are giving me trouble, I think I'll be releasing the guns separately, so the wait won't be as long. All that's really left for the guns is some alpha channel tweaking, UTI editing, and ingame placement.

I decided a while back that I wanted to make an update to my old DL-44 mod... So I figured I'd start with remodelling it. So far, I've remodelled one of the variations, out of a total 3 or 4. Here's how it looks:

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/9923/dl5kx2.th.png) (http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dl5kx2.png)

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/8626/dl6xb1.png) (http://imageshack.us)

Build Time: About 90 Minutes
Polygons: 713
Detached: Not Yet...

At 713 polygons, it's less than half the original model's polygon count, and looks quite a bit cleaner in my opinion. Still needs to be textured, which I'll do myself. No photosourcing this time. After this one, I have a couple more meshes to do, and some minor scripting to fix. I haven't gotten a lot of time for this kind of thing lately, so I can't promise a release date. I'll have it done when I'm able to finish it up. :)

By the way, that awesome font in my second image is the font on the side of the Dr. Pepper can. :D

Well, I've left this sitting pretty long without saying anything... I feel a bit bad about that, so here's a shot of what I've done in the time I've had to work on this:

http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/1147/dl7zc4.png) (http://imageshack.us)

And with some very nice touch-ups and additions by Inyri Forge (Thanks again! :D):

http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/1069/dl8vo6.png) (http://imageshack.us)

Blue parts haven't been mapped/textured yet. Ignore that odd line around the mesh, Imageshack did that for some reason.

I'm sorry this is taking me so long to make progress on, it's just so difficult to pull together an adequate amount of time to work on it. :(

Probably not... I don't really have the time to rig them all for another game and make the appropriate shader files... And I never was successful at rigging first person meshes, as the helpers never exported, so there'd be no muzzle flash, and the shot would appear from the waist... And I really don't have the time to figure that one out, or to search the web for a better exporter.

As for the blaster that I've been completely quiet on... for a really long time... I've been trying to make progress on it, but I've been spending a lot of time in Photoshop for non-modding reasons (Real Life matters, mostly.), so I just haven't really had the desire to spend my free time in Photoshop for hours on end.

I have spent some of it playing in 3DS Max though... Have some decent looking meshes... And even started animating something that could pass as a KotOR era cutscene... May show bits of those things at some point, even if I have no plans to rig/ready them for KotOR. Some people just like to look at that stuff. :p

Anyway, sorry if I've been a disappointment lately...
