The best aircraft ever to exist is the P-47 Thunderbolt.

P-51 was better. Two guns didn't make a difference...the RANGE did.
Using the same evidence, you could say the P-61 was better than BOTH because it had 8 .50 caliber guns, four of them in a turret.

P-47 Thunderbolt

Range: 800 miles (1297 km)
armement: 8 .50 caliber machine guns

an yes the P-51 Mustang has a bigger range: 1000 miles (1610 km) but the P-47 Mustang was originally designed as an interceptor, it found it's true role as a hard-hitting ground-attack aircraft.

The P-61 Black Widow has four 20mm cannon,
four .50 cal machine guns in optional dorsal turret and a range of 1200 miles (1932 km)

Anyways my opinion is that The P-47 Thunderbolt rules

The armement is not the only thing that decides if an aircraft is better than an other their is also Propulsion and Performance: the P-47 Thunderbolt is the best

it is my personal opinion that the P-47 Thunderbolt was the best WWII plane. Has anyone here ever heard of a man named Neel Kearby? He was the Colonel that made the P-47 famous.

The thunderbolt sucks, it's nowhere near as manuverable as the mustang, and I can't defend bombers with it for anything, now with a Mustang, it's no problem.

Oh, by the way, I'm the best F22 pilot here, better than all of you, I'd love to see you take out 15 soviets on your own http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/biggrin.gif)

I have over 500 kills in an F-22, almost 30 of them from a single mission. I also have 7 gun kills in an A-10.

I stick to my claim as best F-22 pilot here and would be willing to defend that title.

And you're pathetic "Mustang" is nothing but cannon fodder for my 262. For the Fatherland!

This thing about the P-51.

1) the mustang if more manuverable then the thunderbolt.

2) it is faster than the thunderbolt.

3) when it was introduced air supperiority was won.

4) it just wasn't for escorting bombers, it was an all purpose fighter.

No way, the P-47 had a max speed 41 MPH faster than the P-51...
and the results revealed after the war showed that the Thunderbolt had the most kills (specially on tanks and other ground units).
The Thunderbolt was THE war aircraft of WWII

http://www.teleport.com/~chalu/repub.htm)

go there,
It tells you how the P-47 Republic Thunderbolt also know as the Juggernaut was the best WWII aircraft...(it is compared with the P-51 and P-38)
the most important part is at the end when the dozen reasons why the T-bolt was the superior fighter are given.

The Jug's record against all opposing aircraft is remarkable. The ratio of kills to losses was unmistakably a winner. Thunderbolt pilots destroyed a total of 11,874 enemy aircraft, over 9,000 trains, and 160,000 vehicles.

Hey.
I am not a 'pigeon' or a '****hawk',
And I don't 'drive planes' or bark commands.
I don't wear bowls, beanbags, or odd things on my head,
Although I am certain they are really, really... comfortable.
I'm in a Squadron, not a Corps.

I speak to my Cadets - not scream at them;
And I polish my boots, not my shaved head.
I can proudly wear my blue uniform and wedge.
I have a Warrent Officer First Class, not a "Chief" or a "Gunny"
Recruits, not 'New Entrys';

And that flying is a truly proud and noble profession!
A wedge is a hat; a thermal is an air movement;
And it's called 'a boot' - not 'an unpolished shoe';
It is one of the largest services,
The only one with morale,
And the best Cadet unit of all!

MY NAME IS RYAN!
AND I AM AN AIR CADET!!!
