Does anyone know where in the game folder I can find all of the available icons for units?

We don't know the file where they are located. Well, I think that's the problem, I asked the same question.

The icons are in one MASSIVE 8MB tga file. Its located in the textures meg. The problem is that there is a MTD file that tells the game exactly where to look in the tga for the icon.

As of now there is no way to edit the MTD. Considering that PG actually helps us modders (and wannabe modders, like me :) ) I doubt it will be too long before we have it figured out.

Cr#p!, we really need to get some modding tools for this game, otherwise, it will be a long time until we can stop scratching the surface.

Is there anyway to view the MTD file as of this moment? or is that still in the works too? Because I'm hoping some of the units that where mentioned out have an icon (such as the tie interceptor).

Hey, you're the only reason I know how to mod! That tutorial thing you wrote helped me get started.

O.K, I extracted the textures file, and it has 4 files each named icon:

Fleet_icon.DDS
Empire_icon.DDS
Rebel_icon.DDS
Pirate_Icon.DDS

I'm not sure wether they actually have anything to do with the tgas, but its a start. The only bad thing is I have no idea what to use to view DDSs.

BTW Connan; I mean, Bob Lion, what is the name of the MTD file?

EDIT: Never mind the name. Found it. Mtcommandbar eh?. I was wondering what that was in this post :) . Anyhow, back to square one I guess?

Actually, to clairify my other post, we can reskin the icons. The problem is adding new ones. You can also reskin any of the ships. I was trying to make a new X-Wing squad with a different skin and icon. How to point the game to this is still unknown. *EDIT-Actually, I have an idea about this.*

You need the DDS plugin for Photoshop (and photoshop) to view/edit them. You can find it here- http://pff.swrebellion.com/index.php?topic=2663.0)

The icons you posted are just the "symbols." Like this one- http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/4-04/rebel.jpg) *Note-thats not the one in the game.*

I see...well, that DDS plugin is gonna be useful once I get home. I guess for what I want to do I could reskin one of the tie scout icons in order to make my tie interceptors a category of their own. Someone needs to make a model for interceptor though ( I'm using the advanced tie squadron skins).

You can reskin the icon, but adding the new icon and keeping the old one, we can not do. (unless someone figured it out and didn't tell me.)

Basically, all you can do at this point is give existing units a new icon by replacing/reskinning the previous one. Same goes for the units themselves. If I wanted to make all the X-Wings blue, I could. If I wanted to make a new class of X-Wing (Which I did) the would have to look like all the other X-Wings. (With the same icon)

Where you able to make a new unit with a different skin? If thats what you are saying, I didn't think that was possible yet.

No, I didn't create a new skin, I used the one in the game which serves as Vader's personal ship(Tie Prototype). I'm not home yet, but I do know there a couple of units which aren't used in the game and probably have an icon which is just itching to be replaced(at least until someone figures how to create/add new models, etc).

I'm trying to make a mod which focuses on the specs/units of the existing ships and makes them what they are supposed to be (or at least as close). Tie Interceptors are just one of the ships missing which are vital(to counter A-Wings). The thing is, having a tie scout icon for the interceptor makes the game confusing sometimes.

AH! I got ya.
I was thinking there was a breakthrough I was unaware of. heh
Thanks for clearing that up.

But yea, as long as you know the name of the unused icon, you can use it.

How do you change the menu screen?

Simple theres files called menu_background, menu 4 button and menu 6 button located in the textures.

Things you will needs is a program like photoshop which I use, you will also need a plugin to import and export the texture file called the .dds plugin.

Goodluck!

If the menu screen you mean is when you first start the game and you see the battle from the Tie fighter cockpit, its "DATA%ART%TEXTURES%MENUBACK_OVERLAY."

Just reskin it however you want and drop it in "\GameData\Data\Art\Textures."
The sidebar is "DATA%ART%TEXTURES%MENUBACK_OVERLAY_PANEL_6BUTTON," by the way.

Just like with the XMLs, you have to remove "DATA%ART%TEXTURES%" for it to work.
