Was Whispering Rock inspired by anything? Down here in Florida, there's a psychic community called Cassadaga. It's known as the "spiritualist camp." Could this have influenced Whispering Rock summer camp in Psychonauts? It seems like more than just a coincidence.

Observe:

Whispering Rock: rough translation of Indian name ingame. I forget what the Indians originally called it (it tells you at the timeline in the parking lot)
Cassadaga: Secian Indian name for "Rocks beneath the water"

Whispering Rock: chosen because of the meteor psitanium underneath the land giving everyone enhanced psychic abilities.
Cassadaga: "The location was chosen for its unique energy level."

Whispering Rock: Psychic summer camp.
Cassadaga: "Spiritualist camp" (with psychics) No one can live in the community otherwise.

Whispering Rock: there's always glowy orbs when you run around camp, day or night. (Ooo, pretty.) They could be bugs but... daytime lightning bugs?
Cassadaga: Has a lake that they dump the cremated remains of their past community member psychics into, creating one of their famed orb photo-taking locations. (aka for the non-paranormal, take a photo at their lake and you can see the so-called "spirit orbs")

That's all the similarities I can think of... unless Whispering Rock was founded around 1894. I've been to Cassadaga before. A somewhat quaint location, but very popular around Halloween anyway.

Well, all good ideas come from somewhere. Thanks for shedding light on this most intriguing discovery.

Someone should e-mail them about this. Get some answers, you know? It would be neat to know the truth.

Surely Psychonauts was inspired by these psychic camps. Most of them run in the same vein as the one you described where you live. So while it may not be a coincidence, it's a sign. A sign that the developers do they're homework.

Or are pyschic.

Cool. Technically you can still see it at 11:00 over the week on Cartoon Network, but it'd be nice to see some new episodes and more air time.

It'll probably be either Fox or Cartoon Network, and seeing as it's a pretty high-budget show I'm guessing the Toonami team (the people who made Big O season 2) are probably gonna do it.

It's Fox. However Fox won't be playing Futurama episodes on the air, and instead will be releasing them on DVD to bring in the money faster. (They obviously don't expect a rise in popularity like Family Guy). A Futurama movie is also being discussed exclusively for DVD.

Don't expect this anytime soon though.

I wonder, what would futurama be like if certain characters were different, like if zoidburg had a very spanish accent, or of Leela and Fry were the opposite gender they are now. Or if the professor had a fro.

Or if everything was on fire.

Or already had been.
