Does anyone here use the MS Sidewinder Dual Strike to play XWA? I just bought the game and I'm having a hell of a time with my gamepad...I set it in joystick mode, so the perspective control now acts as my stick. But I can't assign commands to any of my buttons!

Have you tried using the MS software to create a profile?
The Dual Strike IIRC needs to be set up to generate key strokes as button pushes.
You would use the MS Sidewinder software to assign a different key stroke to each button.
