I have a GeForce256DDR and it works great. Check these 3 things:
1) Do you have DirectX 7.0 or higher? (the game is old and comes with 5.0; don't use it)
2) In the game, hit escape, go to video options. Choose the correct Video Display Driver. It should be Primary Display Driver.
3) Same as (2), but make sure 3D Hardware is turned on.

Hope this helps. You should also download the latest drivers for your card, either from the maker or from nVidia. The new drivers support FSAA for D3D games which makes the game look a whole lot better!
