I don't really know what Yoda is, what exactly is he? Is he a goblin, a dwarf, a birth defect, what?

I just checked the Star Wars Databank and I read, that everything about him is unknown!
The question is purposefully left unanswered by Lucas.

Perhaps there will be an answer in Ep. III. (They have to answer many questions in Ep. III.)
