Comment by Darth333: While outdated concerning the dialogue editing and a few other modding aspects, this tutorial is still a good place for beginners to start learning area editing.

However, it is worth checking if the map you want to edit for the Kotor tool area editor exists. If it does, then this will save you a lot of time! (check the downloads section on the kotor Tool website: http://kotortool.starwarsknights.com) )

Important:

Dialogue editing:

The tutorial refers to an old text base version of tk102's dialogue editor. tk102 has since released a user friendly gui version of the editor with lots of additional functions: DLGeditor (http://www.starwarsknights.com/tools.php). Do not use KotOR Tool's dialogue editor if you are editing KotOR 2: TSL *dlg files. KotOR Tool's dialogue editor is not fully compatible with KotOR 2 and you will loose some valuable data.

Gff editor:
Doom_Dealer'S tutorial also suggests to use the now defunct nwneditor instead of the Bioware GFF editor. Should you chose to try the Bioware editor, note that some data in your .gif and .ifo files will be corrupted as some fields are not supported by this editor. Instead of the nwneditor or the Bioware GFF editor, we recommend that you use tk102's K-GFF: it's a GFF editor made especially for KotOR.

KotOR 2 and the whereami cheat
The cheat console in KotOR 2 is invisible. To get the placement coordinates in KotOR 2, you will need the "whereami armband".

The latest versions of DLGeditor, K-GFF and the whereami armband are available on our website: http://www.starwarsknights.com/tools.php)

====================================

OK all, well it took me 19 pages but ive finally finished.
Don't be put off by the length, is a tutorial that will take you through making a new module, adding a character, creating there dialogue, and adding a simple script. Ive worked hard on this over the last week and its finally finished.

The file is in Microsoft Word format, and includes pictures (oooo aaa) . Alot of it you may know so it will be quicker for some than others, as it was designed for a noob. Therefore there is space used upexplaining how to do differant things with tools (i.e. kotor tool) which alot of you will already know.

anyway, as pcgamemods has buggered up for me this week for some reason ive up loaded it onto my own site. Please download and take a look.

Please don't just close it when you see the size of it, ive spent alot of time and effort on this and i hope that some of you will actually see it through.

I would appreciate it if you could put this in the appropriate sticky moderators!

Note:

This tutorial is kinda outdated, but I know it's linked to in quite a few places, so I just thought i'd add a link to my tutorial (which uses newer tools which make the process easier) here too.
