I really really like how Raven did yavin, but how did they get the rock to look like that? I know about easy gen, and i use it, but as far as i know, it cant do that. I just tried out gensurf in GTK and i dont think it can do that.. so what did they use? Thanks!

the rocks are models and the terrain is manually placed brushes. my map (http://www.jk2files.com/file.info?ID=22561) has similar terrain and the .map file is in the pk3 if u wanna see how its done

You left the .map file in the pk3? That's very decent of you man! Torchy's terrain in that map is staggering...

Sock gives a good tutorial on how to make rock walls here (http://www.planetquake.com/simland/pages/articles/rockwall1_1.htm).

Megaman also has a good tri-souping tutorial here (http://www.alienculture.net/team/megaman/tutorials/trisouping/index.htm).

This is how real terrain is made ;^)

Also, for better terrain shaders (only so much can be done with alphamap defined blending), check these (http://www.splashdamage.com/index.php?name=pnPHPbb2&file=viewtopic&t=5808) two (http://www.splashdamage.com/index.php?name=pnPHPbb2&file=viewtopic&t=5882) threads out.

yeh the new picoterrain rocks, if u can be bothered to learn a 3d application making rock walls and caves ect is a breeze, trisouping just ends up in sparklies for me, and i wish i learned a 3d app sooner. here are some screens of a cave scene for SP. im writing some tutorials on this and ill post the links here soon

Well its ranvensoft dude. They hand crafted it. That is how you make the best terrain. Just use the vertex tool by pressing V.
